In an interview with Rolling Stone, Sabrina described this story as literal. The song details an actual situation where she was in a park on a seesaw with a love interest, and it began to hail. A tornado warning popped up on her phone, and she ignored it. She chose to use this as a metaphor for knowing a person is bad for you, but ignoring it. In the song, Sabrina talks about lying to her therapist about the incident, and compartmentalizing the relationship as "just an occasional escape."
