Sabrina originally wrote this song for her then-upcoming album, EVOLution, but later decided it wasn't part of her musical "evolution" and removed it from the album. Though Sabrina has said she doesn't personally resonate with the song, she says she hopes others will and feels this song is a representation of her newfound maturity transitioning off of Eyes Wide Open. "Smoke and Fire" is a song about a toxic relationship and the liberating feeling of being free from it. The song was recorded in September 2015 and a music video for the song was released on March 11, 2016.
